Purpose or reasons why I make these data-viz tools: No one should be reinventing a wheel or a wall or a bank note, and yet someone out there is trying to build a better wheel, a stronger wall and an improved bank note from which we will all benefit some day. As Elon Musk once said, if we all are on a ship together, and the ship has some holes in it, and we're sort of bailing water out of it, and we have a great design for a bucket, then even if we're bailing out way better than everyone else, we should probably still share the bucket design. We all love opensource libraries and tools, they make great things possible. But, try to remember that awesome interactive visual you saw on a news article's web-page or a very effective info-graphic that uses novel visualization techniques to narrate a story in a youtube video, these bespoke interactive data visualization are not so easy or straightforward to build as a bar chart or pie chart, last time I tried, I ended up learning D3 and coding them. Twenty years ago, creating your online profile or a blog was just as difficult, but today we have ecosystems and platforms that make these tasks so convenient, I'm a front-end web developer who built this website without writing a single line of code, using just a free service from Google (there are other services that make this possible too) that anyone can use to build a website for themselves in few minutes, I'm very happy that self-service platforms for user generated content in various domains exist today. And similarly, we have very powerful business intelligence and data visualization platforms emerging today which will let millions of people discover the power of interactive data visualizations through simple dashboard creation tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Google Data Studio etc., my goal is to make bespoke interactive data visualizations available to everyone, so they can create awesome, functional and beautiful looking visualizations with ease.
